Surgeon Venancio Queupumil Cabrera, member of the Chilean Communist Party, persecuted by Augusto Pinochet”s regime, was murdered in his clinic in the state of Mexico, according to reports today.
According to witnesses, two individuals pretended to be friends, tied him up and shot him several times, the Attorney General’s Office in the State of Mexico reported. They ruled out the robbery as the motive for the murder, because the attackers went out of the clinic without taking valuable things.
Priests Alejandro Solalinde, a defender of human rights, especially those of immigrants, deplored the murder of the doctor, considered by him as a victim of this criminal system, he wrote, using his Twitter account.
Local Deputy Marco Antonio Ramirez, city councilors Elsa Becerril e Ignacio Padilla, as well as state and national councilors and the municipal committee of the National Reconstruction Movement Party also deplored the crime.
Queupumil was persecuted by Augusto Pinochet’s regime (1973-1990). Thus, he managed to escape.
After staying in several countries, finally settled in Mexico. He was an expert surgeon who studied in Cuba, a doctor that retired from the Mexican Institute of Social Security, the newspaper La Jornada reported.
