Press Release:

With the presence of the Chargé d’Affaires, Francisco Pérez Santana, the head of the Military Attaché, Lieutenant Colonel of Aviation, Merly Meléndez, as well as diplomatic and local officials of the diplomatic mission, in the garden of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Barbados, where the bust of the Liberator Simón Bolívar stands, the flags of both countries were hoisted, accompanied by the glorious notes of the National Anthems of Venezuela and Barbados, to commemorate the Day of the Battle of Carabobo and the Bolivarian Army of Venezuela.

Lieutenant Colonel Merly Meléndez took the floor to greet those present, to make a brief historical account of the events that occurred one hundred and ninety-six years ago, where she stated that in “a small savannah near Valencia called Carabobo, ten thousand men engaged in a combat and entered into pitched battle. On one side were those who obeyed the orders of Field Marshal Miguel de la Torre. On the other, those who fought under General Simon Bolivar. Those who fought for all that meant the tricolour flag of a republic that ten years before had decided to become independent and had approved the first Constitution of the Hispanic world to organize the exercise of their sovereignty and regulate a free life for all Citizens.” In her speech, she alluded to historical events and their importance, as well as recalling December 15, 1999, when our Supreme and Eternal Commander Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías designated that date, within the constitutional reform, as the Day of the Bolivarian National Army; and that it was President Chávez who, with his futurist vision, achieved the interaction and integration of the army with the Venezuelan people, extending it in all the armed forces with the objective of complementing one of his goals- the achievement of the greatest amount of happiness possible for all its citizens.

To conclude the event, Francisco Perez Santana, head of the Mission, took the floor to thank the team that accompanies him, who with commitment and manifest dedication daily contribute with the dissemination of the achievements reached by the Bolivarian Revolution in favour of our Venezuelan people.
