The land was sold off for the “price of bananas,” said Fabio Ramalho.
Indigenous people and social movements have protested in Rio de Janeiro against an auction carried out by the government of President Michel Temer to selling their ancestral lands in Minais Gerais to mining companies.
Security guards did not let the Indigenous activists interrupt the auction.
Temer’s administration was trying to auction off nine new oil pits located in the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean in October, in a bid to attract US$80 billion of national (Petrobras) or foreign investment.
According to local media, Temer’s move was criticized within his own party, with the vice president of the lower chamber Fabio Ramalho saying that the four hydro-electric companies were sold “for the price of bananas.”
