Brazil: Lula Tells Judge Moro To ‘Donate’ Properties to MTST

“If the apartment is mine, Moro can donate it to MTST,” Lula promised.

Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silva paid a visit to and spoke at Brazil’s Movement of Homeless Workers, MTST, encampment called the “Fearless People of Sao Bernardo Occupation” on Saturday.

During his speech, he advised the homeless occupants to solicit full use of the the three-story beach apartment that Judge Sergio Moro claims belongs to him.

“If the apartment is mine, Moro can donate it to MTST,” Lula promised. He also told the crowd that an apartment that neighbors at his current residence and a farm which Moro also claims was acquired through bribe payouts can be “donated to MTST,” if it’s discovered that they belong to him.

The encampment began on Sept. 2 on an abandoned lot belonging to the MZM construction company. It now encompasses 70,000 square meters and has spiralled to incorporate over eight thousand, mostly unemployed and homeless people seeking decent, affordable housing.

Though the terrain has been used for absolutely nothing over the past 30 years, MZM is waging a legal battle with local authorities to secure an eviction order for those camped on the lot.

A previous eviction order was recently suspended until a mediation hearing is held.

“I came here because it’s necessary to show Brazilian society, by all means necessary, that those who are encamped here, or encamped somewhere else, are not camping because they enjoy to see their family sleep beneath a canvas or tarpaulin,” Lula explained.

“People are encamped because, little by little, they lost citizenship which they’d conquered in this country.”
