“The threats were trans-regional in the past but today they use proxy and terrorist warfare,” General Hatami told reporters in Tehran on Wednesday.
Stressing that the Iranian Armed Forces should increase their vigilance and capabilities to foil enemies’ plots, he warned, “The enemies want to transfer the threats to (regions) near the borders.”
In relevant remarks late last month, Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Ground Force General Abdollah Araqi underlined that the IRGC’s ongoing fight against the terrorist groups both in and outside Iran is aimed at safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity.
“The Daesh (ISIL) terrorists intend to target Iran’s peace and security,” General Araqi said in a ceremony in Qazvin Province.
He said that unfortunately some believe that fighting terrorists outside Iran’s borders has nothing to do with the country, adding, “But we have to stand against terrorists for the safety of our own country and to defend our values.”
“If the Iranian defenders of the holy Shiite shrines fail to fight Daesh (ISIL), we would soon have to face the terrorists near our borders,” he said.
