Ecuador Vice President, Jorge Glas, on whom pends trial for illegal association, insisted today on his innocence and defends so-called Winning Decade, the 10 years of Citizen Revolution led by former president Rafael Correa.
In a communique published in his Twitter account, the Vice President asked his comrades of the government Movement Alianza PAIS to continue fighting and make true his cause.
‘Today it is me, tomorrow can be any of you. My family is suffering greatly, but I am steadfast on my principles and values (…) Never have I betrayed you nor will I do so. They want to destroy me and I only have you to turn to, with whom I have traveled 10 years of revolution’, he asserted.
As he clarified, the whole Ecuador witnesses one of its darkest moments and when justice bows before power and is used to persecute and humiliate, all citizens must react.
Glas is held in preventive prison since last October 2, after being linked to the investigation for alleged corruption of the Brazilian company Odebrecht in this South American country, considered the process against him as a show staged by General Prosecutor Carlos Baca, lacking in legality.
The leads to charge him include the declaration of an executive of the construction company, Jose Conceiçao Santos, after confessing his own illegalities linked to the case and that according to the second State post, look to destroy him and humiliate the whole nation.
‘I faced Odebrecht in name of the country. I made it to be respected and now I face its vengeance. The prosecutor says I received money without any proof. His evidence is the statement of a corrupt businessman. They will never have proof against me because I have not received an illegal cent’, he affirmed.
In his opinion, all the problem is a political one and the intention is to withdraw him completely from the Vice Presidency, to evade the democratic decision of the people with the purpose of achieving their objective, they have not had any scruple.
‘I am in prison due to a conspiracy! I am prisoner for not shutting up, for fighting back. Only the citizen struggle and you, my comrades of Alianza PAIS, can demand justice for me and sovereignty for our homeland, that Proud and Sovereign Nation that cost us 10 years to rebuild’, he sentenced.
In that regard, he called on his fellowmen, in representation of the citizens, to demand from the prosecutor general the proof of his accusations, ‘I will keep on fighting for our revolution, regardless being in jail’, he concluded, after recalling words of Che Guevara in a letter to his children, in which he asked them to be capable of feeling deeply any injustice committed against anyone, in any part of the world, because that is the most beautiful condition of any revolutionary.
In the fourth day of audiences, last weekend, the general prosecutor insisted on taking Glas to court for illegal association, although according to the same Vice President and his defense, there are no hard evidence that incriminates him.
