President Maduro Denounces That the US Was Plotting to Paralyze the National Oil Industry

The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, denounced on Tuesday that the government of the United States was behind a plan that aimed to paralyze the national oil industry, in order to sabotage the foreign currency income to the country.

“We have discovered in the investigation direct links with the United States embassy in Venezuela to provoke a setback in the oil industry and provoke what I call a silent stoppage of the oil industry, to lower the oil production and lower refining for the refineries to stop,” he explained during a meeting with workers of PDVSA, the main company of Venezuelans.

He specified that through the investigations, the State discovered “a disaster, they were stealing oil directly, they brought international ships and filled them with crude or products and charged in personal accounts, real mafias,” he said.

Maduro said that these “lords who had command and power” were also trying to sabotage the distribution of fuel to the Venezuelan people.

The officials involved, he said, not only dedicated themselves to rob the country and the oil industry, they not only dedicated themselves to mistreating the working class, but they again also believed themselves to be owners of the oil industry and forgot that the only owner of the oil industry is called the noble and sovereign people of Venezuela”.

In this regard, Maduro said that the national executive has evidence of how these mafias emerged in the country’s oil sector. In response, the head of state ordered the Vice President of the Republic, Tareck El Aissami, and the Minister for Communication and Information, Jorge Rodríguez, to spread the evidence from Wednesday.

These investigations were conducted by the head of the Public Ministry, Tarek William Saab, who was appointed by the National Constituent Assembly, before the inaction of the former prosecutor Luisa Ortega Díaz.

In this regard, Maduro thanked the work that William Saab has undertaken in dismantling the corruption mafias that operated in the Orinoco Oil Belts and PDVSA.
