The Paraguayan Executive will receive for its promulgation or veto the bill that establishes the regulatory framework for the research and medicinal use of the cannabis plant and its derivatives, approved today by the Senate.
With the preliminary approval of the upper house in extraordinary session today the sanction of the Legislative Power was completed, because in mid-November the Chamber of Deputies did the same.
The initiative creates the National Program for the Study and Medical and Scientific Research of the Cannabis plant.
This new regulation establishes the partial repeal of the current law on narcotic substances and the exclusion of cannabis from the list of dangerous drugs, as well as its resin, extracts and tinctures from the plant.
In a country among the largest producers of marijuana in the region, the initiative was promoted in Parliament to the large number of applications for the authorization of the product that mitigates the consequences of some diseases.
The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare and the National Anti-Drug Secretariat will be responsible for the application of the legislation.
